1988 Donruss Jose Mesa (#601) NM Dominant Closer as a Rookie ^GRUMPYBUCK^

Jose Mesa was one of the most feared closers in all of baseball when the Indians were so good in the 1990s. He saved 46 games in 1995, the year the Indians fell to the Braves in the World Series. He saved another 39 the next season. After a couple of tough years, he enjoyed a new millennium renaissance with the Phillies and Pirates, saving almost 200 games over a five-season span.

This is Jose Mesa’s rookie card. If it looks like it came fresh out of a pack, that’s because it did! Donruss cards from about 1985 to 1989 are SO hard to keep in good condition because of the dark borders. This one is perfect, like it just came off the printing press. It’s nicely centered, too.
