1986 Topps Don Mattingly (#180) EX AL MVP, Yankees Great ^GRUMPYBUCK^

Don Mattingly was one of the best hitters in baseball between 1984 and 1989. He led the league in hits in two seasons, doubles in three seasons, and RBI in one season. He won the batting title in 1984 and American League MVP in 1985. Still, there’s something tragic about his career. He experienced a huge dropoff after the 1989 season, his last All-Star season. And then he retired one year before the Yankees broke through and won the World Series for the first time since 1978. Still, a great player in his time — even though he’s Hall of Fame worthy.
