Bobby Shantz was a master of finesse — a 5'6" lefty who baffled hitters with pinpoint control and smart pitching. In 1952, he won the American League MVP after a 24-win season with the Philadelphia A’s. Known for his fielding as much as his pitching, Shantz collected eight Gold Gloves and remained a reliable arm well into the '60s. His 1954 Bowman card captures the tail end of his peak and the charm of early postwar cardboard.
